A paradoxical question?
Well this will be short, but it popped into my head so I'll share it with you.
Answer this question as honestly as you can:
How honest are you?
Technically its not a total paradox since you can answer "I am always honest", and if you were telling the truth, then it would be a complete answer.
But of course, you could be lying to yourself.
And here comes the fun part: for you have to take this honesty on 2 levels; your honesty towards others, and your honesty towards yourself. its really easy to lie to one or the other (or both), especially when we speak to people everyday and encounter situations that put our character to the test.
let me give an example: Your good friend shocks you one day by doing something wrong and totally unexpected (insert your scenario here) in front of you. before you know it, he/she has gotten away with it and the whole thing is over. Regardless of you reaction(both immediate and future), he/she repents one day and/or tells you the reason for doing it (insert sad/emotional/bizarre story here). (insert your reaction to him/her here). but its all over, and life seems to go on. then one day (insert person in authority here) looks you up and demands to know if you know about what happened, and if you do, to tell about it. You may or may not also know that your words will be the deciding factor for whatever happens to your friend.
how will you react?
I won't go into moral values and sense and right/wrong and all that. but your perception on all those things will affect your reaction, and thus become a gauge for your level of honesty.
All that said, lets go back to the question itself. After taking all that into consideration, lets think about your answer then. If its still “always honest”, then that’s that. However, if its not, then it gets even more fun, as any “sometimes honest” will make your answer have a percentile chance of being true or false, and thus the honesty of your answer is indeterminate. Of course, a true “sometimes honest” would be correct, but would make you more honest than not. “never honest” would be a total paradox, since you can’t be honest if your answer was true, but it can’t be true since you aren’t supposed to be honest.
And to be honest, I just typed all that for fun. :D hope you had some kinda fun reading it :X
Oh and I would answer: “I try to be honest”.
Really!
